Lab Rat's Domain!
That's me above, posing in the college where I'm currently studying computer science. I've just finished my first year there, but due to a little snag I'm back in the first year again. This sounds like a bad thing, but it's given me the time I need to stretch my legs and relax awhile, dreaming of some sunny piste in the Alps somewhere.
First things first, getting the computer orientated techno stuff out of the way. My qualifications and experience up till now mean I can tell you how a general computer works, from how the logic gates and JK flip-flops work all the way up to the operating system kernel and applications, I can tell you how a CD track is encoded onto the plastic media and how a monitor, mouse and keyboard work. I know what a 555 a-stable timer circuit looks like. I can hack, if you show me the right skip. I think of myself as an O.K. programmer with still a great deal to learn, which won't be a problem as I like programming. I know a bit about Chemistry, Electronics, Maths and a tiny bit about physics. I've spent 5 years learning Welsh in school, and to this day all I can do is introduce myself.
Anyway. That's the stuff I know about. But what I enjoy doing is Ice-skating as many times a week as I can possibly fit in, and when I'm not there you can probably find me down the local trying to play pool. If I don't want to go out, I might do a bit of juggling, at the moment I'm trying to learn a 5 ball cascade and it's taking ages! Or I might try and improve my skill's as a pencil portrait artist, a much neglected skill of mine. On a bad day I watch tele if I'm REALLY bored.
I like horror, sci-fi and fantasy stories, from authors like Steven King, Steven Laws, James Herbert, Isac Asimov, Terry Pratchet, and Arthur C. Clarke. and I've never read Lord of the Rings.
My favourite groups in no particular order are U2, Garbage, The Prodigy, Duran-Duran, Placebo, The KLF, Seal, The Smiths,Mr Mozart, Nine inch Nails, Depeche Mode, The Beatles, Bach, and a whole load of songs from various other composers/bands over the years.
My favourite places to be are; at the cinema with friends, on a car journey late at night in the rain, at home playing loud music, and in bed! I like thunder storms.
I don't understand peoples fascination with aquariums, and I can see both sides of an argument.
I live in North Wales, UK. and I plan to travel to Tibet and other interesting places before 2010. I need over 9 hours sleep a night. I can't write poetry, and I hate writing essays almost as much as being bored. I would have liked to play a musical instrument, but I don't know what I would have chosen, and I don't have a musical ear. I think Sony's 'Mental Wealth' advert is cool and so is the Guinness's one with the swimming horses. I don't support a football team, but I do watch England play in the world cup; I'm not patriotic. The more I learn, the more I realise how ignorant I am.
